Dec. 30, 2002 - June 25, 2011
Nitro was a re-homed Austalian Cattle Dog/Pit Bull mix that I adopted from New Hope Cattle Dogs when he was about 1 1/2 years old. He joined Page, a red female cattle dog I had adopted a few weeks earlier. She was very fond of him, and the two of them were together almost constantly for the next six years.

Nitro had an auto-immune disorder classified as Immune-Mediated Polymyopathy (similar to Myasthenia Gravis). He lived In Arizona, Montana, and Colorado, where he passed away at age 8 1/2. He was treated by the James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hosptial in Fort Collins for the final two years.

Inscription on the Monument of a Newfoundland Dog:

Near this spot are deposited the remains of one who possessed Beauty without Vanity, Strength without Insolence,
Courage without Ferocity, and all the Virtues of Man, without his Vices. This Praise, which would be unmeaning Flattery if inscribed over human ashes is but a just tribute to the Memory of Boatswain, a Dog.

Lord Byron

"The bond with a dog is as lasting as the ties of this earth can ever be."
